Kazys Šešelgis – habilitated doctor of architecture, professor, Lithuanian deserving engineer, Lithuanian deserving scientist, Lithuanian folk architect, awarded Lithuanian state prizes, Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas III degree.
1915 born in Žeimiai, attended Kamajai Primary School, later – Skapiškiai Secondary School, and finally – Rokiškis Gymnasium. 1931–1934 studied at the Higher School of Cultural Technology in Kėdainiai and acquired the specialty of cultural technician. 1937 published his first article “Starting to further improve drained swamps”. 1937–1940 studied at the Construction Department of VMU Faculty of Technology. 1940–1943 studied at Vytautas Magnus University, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Department of Architecture and on 12 June, 1943, he became the first engineer-architect in Lithuania.
K. Šešelgis carried out his activities in two main directions: the unified accommodation system of Lithuania and the research of Lithuanian folk architecture.The concept of the formation of a common system of urban and rural settlements in Lithuania, created and consistently developed by K. Šešelgis, is undoubtedly the most significant activity. K. Šešelgis and his colleagues pay attention to the existing heritage of folk architecture and in 1970 at the initiative of the scientific staff, a list of protected monuments of folk architecture was compiled.
