Suvainiškis Telmological Reserve was established by the Council of Ministers of the LSSR in 1988. The area of ​​the reserve is 1201 ha. The purpose of this reserve is to save the complex of upland swamp. Rare species of birds live and breed here: capercaillies, black grouses, black storks, owls, white-backed woodpeckers.

The reserve is assigned to the Pandėlys forest district, forests of state significance form a larger part of it. The territory of the reserve belongs to the NATURA 2000 habitat LTROK0015, intended for the protection of deciduous forests which grows in swamps.
