Suvainiškis Telmological Reserve was established by the Council of Ministers of the LSSR in 1988. The area of the reserve is 1201 ha. The purpose of this reserve is to save the complex of upland swamp. Rare species of birds live and breed here: capercaillies, black grouses, black storks, owls, white-backed woodpeckers.
The reserve is assigned to the Pandėlys forest district, forests of state significance form a larger part of it. The territory of the reserve belongs to the NATURA 2000 habitat LTROK0015, intended for the protection of deciduous forests which grows in swamps.
