The Soviet atrocities ended on 22 June 1941, when the Wehrmacht army invaded the Soviet Union. At the same time, an uprising organized by Lithuanian activists against the retreating Soviet forces began.  In this way, the aim was to occupy strategically important objects, to take over the local administration and to seek the restoration of the statehood of the Republic of Lithuania.  Unfortunately, these expectations were not met by the Nazis occupation authorities. In July 1941, 67 people were shot in Vyžuonos forest.

How to find?

Driving from Rokiškis to Juodupė (road 3601) and approaching the town of Vyžuonos, you will see a wooden arrow indicating the location of the partisan lands.  Turn left and drive for about 100 m, then turn right. On the right you will see a monument.
