The postwar partisan fights is one of the most tragic and heroic periods in Lithuania’s history. 1944 December 12 Panemunio (Pandėlio sen.) Offensive – Northeast Lithuanian partisan operation, in which about 300 partisans from the districts of Biržai, Rokiškis and Panevėžys participated. It was led by K. Kalpokas. In the post-war years more than 100 fighters of the area’s freedom were killed. The bodies of the dead and fallen partisans were buried at the site of the monument. In 2003, a huge monument “Angel” was unveiled in Panemunė. This is an angel of five meters high, and the distance between his expanded wings is eight meters. The author of the monument is architect A. Paslaitis, sculptor K. Kisielis.
