This exclusive forest is dedicated to immortalizing the date of Lithuanian’s accession to the European Union. The work began in 2003 in the Alseta village, where the European forest is now located. It was hastened so that on 1 May 2004, on the day of the accession to the EU, the seedlings would have started to grow.
Hundreds of residents of Rokiškis district supported this meaningful idea and contributed to its implementation. The 50-hectare meadow area, not suitable for agriculture, was planted with pine trees and birches by the helpers of the municipality, district schools, institutions, companies.
